Independent Adoption

An independent adoption is one arranged directly between birth parents and adoptive parents. This is not uncommon and can occur through introductions by friends, relatives, or through other personal networking.  In Wisconsin, an adoption agency is required to offer counseling for expectant birth parents and to perform a home study of the prospective adoptive parents.  In an independent adoption, AOW can provide the following services:

  • Home Study
  • Birth Parent Counseling and Services
  • Adoptive Parent Counseling and Services
  • Guardianship prior to finalization
  • Post Placement Services
  • Finalization Report
  • Most services are provided for an hourly fee. Home Study, Guardianship and Post Placement services are provided for a flat fee.

* Please note that this is not a comprehensive list of services
** Fees for Travel Time and Mileage are charges additional and seperate
