Legal services are distinct and separate services from those provided through AOW. If you are involved in an agency adoption, you will be receiving legal services from The Law Center for Children and Families (TLC). Once a match has been made, an AOW social worker will provide TLC your information as the proposed adoptive parents. TLC will then contact you with information about their agency and fees. If you do not hear from them in a timely manner, please initiate contact to 608.821.8200. If there are any questions regarding the legal fees, they should be directed to TLC.
You will also need what is called a Guardian ad Litem (GAL). The GAL is utilized in each TPR hearing. The GAL is the legal representative for the interests of the baby. The GAL is a neutral party appointed by the court and therefore is from a separate agency than TLC or AOW. You will be required to pay fees for the services provided by the GAL. If you have more questions about the GAL fees, please direct them to the appointed agency.
