What is transitional care?

Transitional Care, in a private transitional home, is available to the birth parents and adoptive parents that do not choose direct placement. Transitional care is often utilized in closed adoptions, when a birth parent needs more time to consider the choice of adoption or may be used when there are uncertainties regarding birth father consent status.

Placing a child in care is under the discretion of birth parents, adoptive parents, and AOW. Transitional care is often a valuable option for both birth parents and adoptive parents when questions arise in the adoption process.

Transitional care may be used for any amount of time until the TPR hearing. Birth Parents are able to visit their child as often as they wish while the child is in the transitional setting. With birth parents permission, adoptive parents may also visit as often as they wish. Transitional care services are paid for by the adoptive parents and are non-refundable if the birth parent decides to parent.
