What happens if the Birth Parent decides to Parent the child?

One of the most  difficult things for adoptive parents is if a birth parent decides to terminate the adoptive plan. Adoptive parents who are matched with a birth parent must be aware that the role of the birth parent social worker is to support whatever choice the birth parent makes.

Ultimately, if adoption is the birth parent's choice, that parent must be able to testify in court that the decision has been made voluntarily with no coercion from anyone. However, AOW social workers recognize that failed adoptions are one of the most difficult things for adoptive families and therefore your social worker will be available to provide you with counseling services as needed.
